Wii Connection Problems
Connection Problems
You can connect your Nintendo Wii using wires or wireless. If you choose to connect via a wired router then you can connect using the Wii LAN adapter and following the steps below:
1. Connect an Ethernet cable directly from your broadband modem or wired router.
2. Turn off the power on the Wii console, then insert the Wii LAN Adapter into the USB port on the back of the Wii console.
3. Connect the ethernet cable to the ethernet port on the Wii LAN Adapter.
4. Turn on the Wii console and configure the internet connection settings. This is done as follows:
* On the Wii console’s main menu, click on the ‘Wii button’ in the lower left corner. This will take you to the settings screen. Now click on ‘Wii Settings’.
* Click on the blue arrow on the right to reach the second screen of options, and then click the ‘Internet’ button. Select ‘Connection Settings’ and select an empty connection slot indicated by ‘None’. Then select ‘Wired Connection’.
* Click OK on the next screen. The console will then attempt to connect with the wired router. The test should tell you that it succeeds, at which point, the setup is complete.
If you have a wireless router then follow the steps in point 4 above, but select “Wireless Connection” at the second step. Then select “Search for an Access Point”. The Wii console will then search for any access points nearby that are identifiable.
You then choose the access point that you wish to connect to – if the connection appears as a closed padlock then the point needs a secuity code which can usually be found on the security tab of the wireless router settings. Connections which appear yellow or red are either unstable or the connection is weak.
Once the access point has been selected, press “Save” and then “OK”. Pressing “OK” a second time will start the connection test. This will normally be successful and you now be connected.
